“Another Link in the Chain” An FBCA to Naval Academy Connection

Fort Bend Christian Academy has long celebrated graduating students choosing to serve their country by being accepted and attending one of the five United States Service Academies upon graduating. This year, however, a special story has unfolded between our valedictorian and a long-time member of the FBCA community.

FBCA Class of 2026 Valedictorian, Jamison Louie, was accepted into the United States Naval Academy to pursue a major in Cyber Operations and compete as a D1 athlete in golf. While her plans are taking her far from FBCA, her connection to our school will only be strengthened through a chance meeting and a mentorship program.

At a dinner welcoming incoming Naval Academy midshipmen from the Houston area, Jamison and her parents had the pleasure of meeting CDR Quincy Hodge, USN (Ret.). Quincy is the husband of Claudette Hodge, FBCA Executive Assistant to the Head of School and former FBCA parent. Quincy graduated from Annapolis as a member of the Class of 1980, while Jamison is preparing to begin her Naval Academy journey as a member of the Class of 2030—exactly fifty years later.

Since 2000, every graduating class at the United States Naval Academy has been paired with a companion class that graduated exactly 50 years earlier. This cherished Naval Academy tradition, known as “Another Link in the Chain,” takes its name from a verse in The Laws of the Navy, an early 20th-century poem by Royal Navy Captain Ronald Hopwood:

“Upon one link in the cable
Dependeth the might of the chain;
Who knows when thou mayest be tested,
So live that thou bearest the strain.”

The program fosters meaningful relationships between current midshipmen and alumni from their counterpart class, creating opportunities for mentorship, encouragement, friendship, and shared service across generations.

What an extraordinary—and God-ordained—connection.

For Quincy and Jamison, that connection has already begun. What started as a chance meeting at a local gathering is now part of a much larger story through the “Another Link in the Chain” program. Jamison will now have a familiar face and home-town connection in Quincy as she begins her service career. Quincy and Claudette look forward to following Jamison’s journey through the Academy and beyond, sharing wisdom gained through decades of service while cheering her on through the challenges and triumphs that lie ahead. 

From Induction Day to Commissioning and throughout their careers, midshipmen benefit from the experience, perspective, and steadfast support of senior alumni. In turn, members of the counterpart class find great joy in investing in the next generation of Navy and Marine Corps officers.

As Jamison and the Class of 2030 begin their journey, and Quincy and the Class of 1980 continue their legacy of service and mentorship, another bond has been forged—another link added to a chain. FBCA is immensely proud to be a part of this continuing story of leadership, mentorship, and service to our country through the incredible Eagles in our community. 

Another link in the chain, indeed.
