Debate Student Wins Big at American Legion Texas Boys State

Earlier this summer, rising senior Jit Long Leung represented FBCA at the American Legion Boys State event and left with a long list of accolades! Texas Boys State brings several hundred high school boys from across the state to learn about and form a better appreciation for the state and municipal governments through a hands-on, non-partisan competition. Jit Long was elected chairman, state delegate, and then appointed to the "Nationalist State Party" Whip. He was ultimately elected Supreme Court Justice, and the Nationalist Party won by a landslide.

After the tournament, Jit Long sent a heartfelt message to Michelle Walker, FBCA Debate Sponsor, and said, "Throughout this experience, I have learned so much about Texas's judiciary and legislative process. I had an amazing time at Boys State and made a ton of friends along the way. Thank you to FBCA for giving me such a wonderful opportunity!"

He also shared that he saw several students there whom he already knows from the speech and debate circuit in the Houston area, so he enjoyed building on those friendships.

We are proud of this Eagle for not only being selected to participate in this prestigious event, but for excelling there as well! We can't wait to see what he accomplishes this next school year on the FBCA Speech and Debate Team.

From the website: American Legion Boys State is among the most respected and selective educational programs of government instruction for high school students. It is a participatory program where each student becomes a part of the operation of his local, county, and state government. At American Legion Boys State, participants are exposed to the rights and privileges, the duties and the responsibilities of a franchised citizen. The training is objective and practical, with city, county, and state governments operated by the students elected to the various offices.
