Boys Win TAPPS 5A Championship, Girls Finish as Runners-Up - Five State Records Broken, Bayleigh Minor Named Athlete of the Meet

Fort Bend Christian Academy’s Varsity Track & Field program closed out the season with historic performances at the TAPPS 5A State Championship, as the boys team captured the 2025 State Title and the girls team earned State Runner-Up honors.

Senior Bayleigh Minor was named Athlete of the Meet, winning five gold medals and setting three TAPPS 5A State Records in the triple jump (39’ 2”), 200-meter dash (23.91), and 400-meter dash (54.73). Minor also claimed gold in the long jump (18’ 10.50”) and anchored the gold-medal-winning 4x400 relay team (4:04.76) with teammates Brooke Perry, Lilly Coppedge, and Chimmy Ajoku.

On the boys side, Blake Hamilton dominated the sprints, breaking two TAPPS 5A State Records in the 100-meter dash (10.49) and 200-meter dash (20.91). Hamilton also led the state champion 4x100 relay team, which included Colton Popovich, TJ Smith, and AJ Shell, to a time of 42.14.

“Our student-athletes rose to the occasion with extraordinary effort, discipline, and faith,” said Head Track Coach and Assistant Athletic Director Deon Minor. “It’s not just about the medals—though we’re proud of them—it’s about how these young men and women prepared, competed, and rose to the occasion the entire season.”

Other state champions included:

  • Kennesha Nabors – Shot Put

  • Girls 4x400 Relay – Perry, Coppedge, Ajoku, Minor (4:04.76)

  • Boys 4x100 Relay – Popovich, Hamilton, Smith, Shell (42.14)

Additional medalists included:

  • Girls 4x200 Relay – Skye Shell, Olivia Mhoon, Tanner Tell, Brooke Perry – Silver (1:47.83)

  • Charlie Molloy – Long Jump – Silver (22' 0.75")

  • Sean Jimmy Ducksworth – High Jump – Bronze (6' 0")

  • Naomi Jones – Triple Jump – Bronze (36' 7.50") – Personal Record

  • Elijah Savage – 3200m – Bronze (9:41.35)

“The team this year really set a new standard of how to never give up and keep reaching for your goal,” said Director of Athletics, Richard Lazarou. “Their achievements are a testament to their commitment, our coaches’ leadership, and God’s provision in every step. We’re incredibly proud of each of them.”
