Emeralds Dance Team Named National Champions
Renie Deanda

The Fort Bend Christian Academy Upper School Emeralds Dance Team wrapped up an unforgettable season marked by perseverance, passion and excellence. The team represented FBCA with grace and determination across three major competitions, ultimately earning the title of National Grand Champions at MA Nationals in Arlington.

The Emeralds began their competitive season in January at the TAPPS State Championship in Waco. They continued to shine at the MA Dance State Competition in Spring, but it was their performance at Nationals that cemented their legacy. After countless early mornings—practicing from 6:30 to 8 a.m. daily—their hard work paid off: every team routine placed first, and the Emeralds were crowned Grand Champions, earning national championship rings.

The team competed in multiple styles throughout the season, including:

  • Pom – first place

  • Jazz – first place

  • Hip-hop – first place

Officer routines also earned top honors:

  • Lyrical – first place

  • Contemporary – first place

Soloists also made their mark:

  • Senior 17-18 division: Maya-Maria Willis and Lizzie Narvaez

  • Senior 15-16 division: Kelcy Nguyen, Cathy Huang, Trinity Simpson

  • Junior 13-14 division: Livi Payton

  • Solo Finalists (top 25): Kelcy Nguyen and Cathy Huang

Congratulations to the talented officer line — Kelcy Nguyen, Lizzie Narvaez, Cathy Huang, Maya-Maria Willis and Trinity Simpson — who led with both artistry and integrity. Their leadership was instrumental in the team’s success.

"This season was a powerful reminder of what can happen when talent meets discipline. The Emeralds poured their hearts into every routine, and it showed. From the first morning practice to the final bow at Nationals, these young women embodied the spirit of excellence. Becoming National Grand Champions is not just a title — it’s a testament to their unity, resilience and passion for dance," Coach Lyndsay and Coach Mau said.

The FBCA community is proud of the Emeralds and all they have accomplished this season. We look forward to seeing where their talent and teamwork will take them next year!
