Fort Bend Christian Academy is pleased to announce Ms. Liz Thornton as the next Director of Curriculum & Instruction. Ms. Thornton comes to FBCA from the Kinkaid School, where she served as Middle School Dean, Writing and History Teacher and Curriculum Coordinator since 2013. A 16 year educator, she has also taught at three other prominent independent schools across Texas.

During her time at Kinkaid, Ms. Thornton supported teacher development and skill building through one-on-one coaching sessions, classroom observations, and immediate, actionable feedback. She instructed and encouraged best practices in instruction, classroom management, and distance learning through modeling, co-teaching lessons, and leading weekly ‘Lunch and Learns.’ She also worked with teachers to increase their confidence and familiarity with new educational technologies, promoted a professional learning community, and researched and recommended professional development opportunities. One of her significant achievements was leading the development of a comprehensive curriculum guide for the Middle School.

“As a parent who has seen the incredible impact of FBCA on my own family, I'm thrilled to now be a part of this Christ-centered community as the Director of Curriculum and Instruction,” Ms. Thornton said. “My primary focus is to work closely with our academic leaders to enhance the cohesion and rigor of our academic programs. I'm committed to asking meaningful questions that will guide us in continuously improving and enriching the education we provide to our students.”

Ms. Thornton obtained her Bachelors from Southwestern University in English and Communication studies and is a graduate of Teachers College at Columbia University, where she obtained a Master of Arts in Teaching with a focus in English Education. Ms. Thornton and her son, a kindergartener at FBCA, reside in Sugar Land. She attends Parkway United Methodist Church and enjoys hiking and camping outdoors, reading, cooking, and going on weekend adventures with her son.
