Fort Bend Christian Academy is proud to announce the hiring of Coach Ondra Waddy as the new Head Basketball Coach and Assistant Athletic Director.

Coach Waddy brings more than two decades of head coaching experience to FBCA’s athletic program, including 17 years at Brazosport High School and the last seven years at Dr. John D. Horn High School in Mesquite, Texas. Throughout his 23-year coaching career, he has compiled over 460 wins, led teams to 17 state playoff appearances, and earned a reputation as one of the most respected coaches in Texas high school basketball. His teams have captured multiple district championships, including an undefeated district title in 2022, and made historic playoff runs—such as Brazosport’s first-ever state tournament appearance and state title game berth.

Coach Waddy was recently named the 2025 UIL Class 6A Outstanding Coach by the Texas Association of Basketball Coaches and has developed more than a dozen collegiate athletes. In addition to his coaching success, he is a certified educator in secondary mathematics and has received awards for his excellence in the classroom, including Campus Teacher of the Year and the ConocoPhillips Math Teacher Award.

More than just a seasoned coach, Coach Waddy is a servant-leader and ordained pastor. For ten years, he served as a bi-vocational pastor, preaching and shepherding his local church community. His passion for the Lord is at the heart of his coaching philosophy. He views basketball not only as a competitive sport but as a ministry—a platform to disciple student-athletes and help them grow into strong, faith-filled leaders on and off the court. His approach is grounded in three core values: teamwork, practice, and trust.

“As we seek to shape young men into Christian leaders, Coach Waddy’s unwavering faith, strong character, and transformational leadership stood out," said FBCA Director of Athletics Richard Lazarou. "We are thrilled to welcome him to the Eagle family and believe he will be a true asset to our school, our program, and our mission.”

Coach Waddy shared, “Basketball is about heart and hustle, pride and determination, confidence and teamwork. But more than that—it’s about glorifying God through every drill, every play, and every moment of growth. I am beyond honored to join a school where faith and excellence go hand in hand.”

In addition to leading the Upper School boys basketball program, Coach Waddy will serve as Assistant Athletic Director overseeing Athletic Trainers, Middle School and Upper School Boys Basketball, Middle School and Upper School Tennis, sponsoring the Fellowship of Christian Athletes, and coordinating all facility rentals on campus.

Coach Waddy will be on campus Monday, April 28, to meet students and families.

  • During Community Time, he will meet with Upper School basketball players in the Upper School Gym.

  • Later that evening, parents and student-athletes are invited to a casual Meet & Greet at 6:00 p.m. in the Eagle Café, where families will have the opportunity to hear directly from Coach Waddy and learn more about his vision for the future of the program.

Please join us in welcoming Coach Waddy and his family to Fort Bend Christian Academy. We look forward to all that God will accomplish through him and through our basketball program in the seasons ahead.
