Musical Theatre Shows up BIG at the Tommy Tune Awards 2026!
Last Friday, FBCA Honors Theatre Production students brought the house down at the 2026 Tommy Tune Awards ceremony as “Best Musical Finalists” with their performance of "Way Down Hadestown" from their fall production of Hadestown: Teen Edition. This event marks Fort Bend Christian Academy's first year participating in the Tommy Tune Awards program, with 26 preliminary nominations, 5 finalist nominations, and one Jimmy Awards Nominee Runner Up.
Each year, Theatre Under The Stars (TUTS) honors the outstanding achievements of high school musical theatre students who show excellence both onstage and behind the scenes through the Tommy Tune Awards. In 2026 alone, more than 6,000 students from 65 schools participated, culminating in a ceremony at the Hobby Center, where more than 600 students performed live on stage.
Several Eagles were individually recognized during the event. Senior Gabby Anthony performed in a special medley of Lead Performer Finalists based on her nomination as Eurydice in Hadestown: Teen Edition. Gabby was also one of just 16 lead finalists out of 6,000 students participating, who was awarded the Jimmy Awards® Nominee Runner Up after an intensive two-week audition process and one of just four students selected for a college scholarship. Outstanding Dancer Finalist, Senior Joellie Cadiz; Outstanding Honorable Mention Finalist, Sophomore Harper Brown; and Show Shirt Performer, Senior Zachary Rudge, all performed in additional mainstage numbers as part of their finalist recognition. Stagecraft student Abigale Hutchens (Junior) worked alongside a professional stage management team over the past few weeks to prepare technical operations for the event. Abigale was joined by Stagecraft students Sophomore Carmela Cordova, Junior Austin Norton, and Senior Rebecca Wijnja, who served as school liaisons throughout the evening.
This year saw the highest number of participating schools and shows in the Tommy Tune Awards, with just eight high schools from across the greater Houston area selected to perform at the ceremony as Best Musical Finalists. We are so proud of the hard work, dedication, and sheer talent of these Eagles to achieve this incredible honor! Great job to these students and the FBCA Fine Arts staff!
