Three Art Students Medal at the 2024 National Scholastic Art & Writing Awards
The Alliance for Young Artists & Writers, the nonprofit organization that presents the Scholastic Awards, recently awarded Class of 2024 Seniors Joana Liu with a Gold Medal in Mixed Media, Lance Lemus with a Silver Medal in Photography, and Oksana Arevalo with a Silver Medal in Sculpture.
More than 100,000 students entered nearly 340,000 original works of art and writing to the 2024 Scholastic Awards. Their work was selected by some of the foremost leaders in the visual and literary arts for excellence in originality, skill, and the emergence of a personal voice or vision. Less than 2,500 works received a National Medal, which places them within the top 8% of all submissions.
Joana Lui’s artwork will be in the 2024 National Exhibition at the The Metropolitan Museum of Art’s Ruth and Harold D. Uris Center for Education in New York City in the late fall.
“You will passionately hear Mr. Baptiste and Mr. Sanders talking about our artists and their work as a testimony. That word surrenders us to other words like treasure, hope, healing, redemption, refuge, and humility that we seek to see in our artist's work. We treasure these artistic purists and it's the wonderful part of seeing art come alive. We both would say we are humbled and our hearts are filled with thanksgiving, joy, and gratitude for Joana, Lance, and Oksana. The next stop is THE MET, New York City!,” Robert Sanders, Director of Fine Arts, said.
Congratulations Eagles! We cannot wait to see your work displayed in the fall!
