Volleyball Caps Stellar Season with State Tournament Appearance
The Fort Bend Christian Academy Varsity Volleyball team ended a remarkable season with a strong showing at the TAPPS 5A Division II State Championship Tournament, highlighting their skill, teamwork, and individual achievements along the way.
The Eagles dominated the playoffs, starting with a sweep of St. Joseph’s Brownsville, 3-0, in the bi-district round. They followed up with another 3-2 victory over St. Joseph’s Victoria in the area round.
In the state tournament, Fort Bend Christian defeated Legacy Prep The Woodlands in straight sets, 3-0. The Eagles’ run came to an end in a hard-fought championship game against All Saints Fort Worth, where they fell 3-1.
The Eagles’ season was marked by impressive individual milestones, including:
- Bayleigh Minor, senior: 1,000 career kills
- Layne Bulow, senior: 1,000 career digs
- Lauren Leroux, senior: 1,000 career assists
These achievements underscore the players’ hard work and dedication throughout their high school careers.
Four Eagles players were named to the TAPPS 5A Division II All-Tournament Team for their exceptional performances:
- Bayleigh Minor, senior
- Ruth Ochelli, senior
- Daniela Ramirez, junior
- Tanner Tell, sophomore
Their contributions on the court were instrumental in the Eagles’ playoff success.
"From the day, I first set foot on campus in June, I have been humbled by the way the volleyball players have come together and worked so hard to represent the Lord on and off the court this season," Director of Athletics, Richard Lazarou, said. "They had to deal with more adversity than any other team that I have ever witnessed, but in spite of it all, they played with passion until the last point of the state championship game, and I will never forget them for that. They will be greatly missed but their standard of excellence will live on."
"These amazing young ladies went on an incredible journey that was filled with numerous trials. They stood on their faith and preserved to be Distict Co-Champions and went on to be state runner-ups. I was lucky enough to be along for the ride," Head Coach David Reeves said.
While the Eagles’ season ended this past weekend, this team will go down in the record books for their resilience, unity, and success have set the bar high. With key players returning next season, volleyball is poised for continued success.
Congratulations, Eagles! We are proud of you!
