Fort Bend Christian Academy | A Private Christian school in Sugar Land, Texas Counseling and College Guidance

It is the primary goal of the counseling and college guidance department to provide the tools necessary for students to explore their strengths and interests, preparing them to achieve academic and spiritual success in college and life.

We aim to help students find a college match - institutions that fit a student’s needs academically, socially, emotionally and spiritually. The counseling and college guidance office aims to support parents and students through the college application process, beginning with students in the ninth grade. Our counselors work closely with students and parents in the college planning, selection and application process.

College Planning Checklists

List of 4 items.

Seniors
- Finalize college applications in early fall
- Complete standardized testing, including SAT Subject Tests
- File the FAFSA and CSS Profile
- Complete additional applications, including scholarship, honors and special program applications
- Revisit colleges you are admitted to in the spring
- Choose a college and deposit by May 1st
Juniors
- Attend a Parent/Student College Planning Meeting in the fall and spring
- Take the PSAT (administered by FBCA in October) and the SAT or ACT at least once in the fall of junior year. Plan a testing schedule for your year
- Complete the YouScience career and aptitude assessment in the fall
- Continue research of college campuses, majors and programs and attend college rep visits and FBCA college fair
- Refine your list of colleges in collaboration with the college counseling office
- Begin your college essays in the spring
- Finalize a resume and request teacher recommendations in late March/April
- Visit college campuses in the spring and over the summer
- Complete a summer enrichment program
- Work on college applications over the summer
Sophomores
- Attend a Parent/Student College Planning Meeting with the college counselor
- Take the PSAT (administered at FBCA in October)
- Complete Do What You Are through Naviance
- Conduct college research through Naviance and other college planning resources under the direction of the college counseling office - focus on “fit” (academic, social, financial and spiritual)
- Visit colleges over holidays and summer break
- Re-evaluate course choices for junior and senior year and adjust, if necessary
- Complete a summer enrichment program
- Prepare for the SAT or ACT in summer following sophomore year
Freshmen
- Design a four-year plan with FBCA academic advising and college planning support.
- Explore extracurriculars, clubs and organizations and get involved in a few activities that interest you
- Utilize Naviance and begin building your resume
- Attend FBCA hosted college rep visits and attend FBCA college fair
- Attend a Parent/Student College Planning Meeting with the college counselor (if desired)
- Complete a summer enrichment program

Graham Traylor

Bio
Prior to joining FBCA, Graham Traylor worked in undergraduate admissions for Baylor University. Early on, Graham realized that he wanted to make a career of helping students reach their higher education goals. He finds joy in the relational element of counseling students to reach their potential and alleviating anxiety that many students feel during the application process. His goal is to ensure that students are successful graduates of the colleges they attend and not just successfully admitted to their top-choice schools. Graham believes the right college fit for students is a place where they can continue the FBCA mission to thrive spiritually, academically, socially and physically.

Graham holds a Bachelor of Business Administration from Baylor University, as well as a Master of Arts in Higher Education Administration from Sam Houston State University. He is a member of the Texas Association of College Admission Counseling (TACAC) and former member of the Houston Area Recruiters Network (HARN). He is excited to use his background and network to serve the students of FBCA.
