FBCA Theater & ASL Win Outstanding Production Award at Junior Theater Festival

Renie Deanda
The FBCA Godspell Theater & ASL Cast was one of nine production groups out of 125 groups that received a JTF Outstanding Production at this past weekend's Junior Theater Festival in Atlanta, Georgia. With this recognition, the cast was asked to perform one number from their adjudication piece from Godspell "Save the People" during the Freddie G Awards Ceremony on Sunday, January 15, in front of more than 6,000 people, the highest honor a group can receive at the festival.

FBCA Juniors Jack Brown and Matthew Schwab were chosen as JTF 2023 Performance All-Stars and were invited to attend a special workshop with iTheatrics staff. These All-Stars work with the iTheatrics staff to learn a grand finale number, which they performed onstage on the last day of the festival. A Technical Theater All-Star was also awarded to FBCA Junior Katie Breedlove.

"These students saw rich content, packed each day with purpose, growth, risk-taking, and reward. We are all so proud of them for being a light and living out what it means to be a city on a hill," Robert Sanders, FBCA Director of Fine Arts, said. "This is a moment of a lifetime that we will all remember. I am so proud of them for their hard work and dedication to producing an excellent piece."

Congratulations to the students and ASL & Theater teachers, Mrs. Thompson, Ms. DeBuck, and Mrs. Patterson on an awesome showing!

The first Junior Theater Festival in 2003 was designed to see if educators and students would enjoy three days of a non-stop musical theatre celebration – and, after the first JTF Atlanta, the answer was an enthusiastic “yes”!  In 2023, they celebrated 20 years of JTF Atlanta with adjudications, workshops, and one-of-a-kind main stage events where all sorts of musical theater surprises are in store.
