2023 Houston Livestock Show & Rodeo Art Competition Recognizes 25 FBCA Students

Congratulations to the 25 FBCA Students across all Divisions, whose artwork was selected or recognized by the Houston Livestock & Rodeo in their annual ‘School Art Program’ competition!

Upper School 2D & 3D Art Competition Winners
Alexa Gerke ‘23 (2D) - “Best In Show”
Joana Liu ‘24 (2D)  - Gold Medal
Helina Zhang ‘25 (2D) - Teal Award of Excellence Finalist Ribbon
Sara Sanchez ‘24 (2D) - Teal Award of Excellence Finalist Ribbon
Brooke Thompson ‘24 (3D) - Teal Award of Excellence Finalist Ribbon

These finalists will be awarded the opportunity to apply for Western Art Academy (students to receive 3 college hours of credit from Schreiner University), and Glassell Junior School of Art due to their outstanding achievement in the 2023 Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo. *We are not able to share photos of Alexa G. and Joana L.'s artwork until the conclusion of the judging.

Select art pieces will be on display throughout the 2023 Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo. It will be located in the Hayloft Gallery, on the first floor of the NRG Center at the west end of the lobby (main hallway). 

The Best of Show, & Gold Medal winners have advanced to the Grand Prix Judging to compete for the 2D & 3D Class Grand Champion and Reserve Grand Champion. The 2D  & 3D Class Grand Champion, Reserve Class Champion, and Premium Winner artwork become the property of the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo.

6th Grade

Christie Hui - “Cowboy Mouse Riding a Tabby Cat”  - Blue Ribbon Award of Excellence
Bryce Lee - “Pig Behind the Fence”  - Red Ribbon Award of Excellence
Holden Propst - “ Cowboy Squirrel” - Red Ribbon Award of Excellence
Campbell Garvin - “Cowboy Companion & Herding Helper  - Blue Ribbon Award of Excellence

7th Grade

The above rodeo artwork will be on display upstairs in the middle school display case.  


Lower School Art Competition Winners

The following students received first place Blue Ribbons:

The following students received a second place Red Ribbon:
Rebekah Jaycob (3rd) - “Western Scene”

Their rodeo artwork will be on display during the week of Rodeo Day, February 24.
